One of the bands Lofi Legs first bonded over was the Beatles, whose short, sharp lyrics and airtight structures influenced the band’s 2019 debut Lamb. Singer-songwriter Paris Cox-Farr’s tastes have changed since then, and he now prefers the nihilism and neutrality of Zappa, but Lofi Legs’ mastery of the troglodytic pop song remains undimmed. “Thinking of You” kicks off the San Francisco rock band’s upcoming second album Leg Day, just as it’s kicked off most of their shows since returning to live performance last summer. It’s one of the shortest and songs on the album, and though its length and lyrical simplicity is a bit of a red herring compared to the slower and fire-lit songs that come later, that should only enhance the listener’s curiosity about what’s to come following Lofi Legs’ two-and-a-half-year absence from the studio. It’s also the first track to feature all four Legs on vocals in addition to their instrumental duties: Strummer Millward’s soda-shop bass line, Fabrizio Incerti’s rapid-fire fills, Daniel Bromfield’s Prince-inspired electric sitar, and an opening riff from Cox-Farr that sends Chuck Berry and Pavement crashing into each other. This is San Francisco garage rock at its finest, and it’s the second single from LEG DAY, out 2/11
